New and used MTB shoes
MTB shoes have a stiff sole that transfers power to the pedal and a rubber tread you can walk on along the trail. There are two types: SPD (clipless) shoes that lock into the pedals with cleats, and flat pedal shoes with a soft, sticky sole, preferred for enduro and downhill.
How to choose the right shoes
- SPD for cross-country and long rides, flat pedals for descents and beginners
- sole stiffness: stiffer for efficiency, more flexible for walking
- the closure: laces, velcro or BOA, easier to adjust on the move
- toe and ankle protection, useful on rocky trails
- on used shoes: wear on the sole and the cleat track
Leatt and Northwave have the most ads on Biklo, followed by Five Ten, Specialized, Shimano, FLR and SiDi. You'll find both new pairs from shops and lightly worn shoes, and a pair usually fits in a parcel locker.
