Bike cassettes
The cassette is the set of sprockets on the rear wheel, and its range (for example 11–34 or 10–52) tells you how easily you climb and how fast you go on the flat. Here you'll find 7- to 12-speed cassettes for MTB, road, gravel and city bikes, plus screw-on freewheels for older bikes.
How to choose the right cassette
- the number of gears, the same as your shifter and derailleur
- the hub body: HG (classic Shimano), Micro Spline (Shimano 12-speed MTB), XD (SRAM) or Campagnolo
- the largest sprocket, within your derailleur's capacity
- weight: light cassettes have aluminium or titanium sprockets, cheap ones are steel
- wear: blunted or hook-shaped teeth make the chain skip
Shimano has the most cassettes on Biklo, followed by SRAM, SunRace, KMC and Microshift. Replace the cassette and chain together: a new chain skips on worn sprockets, and an old one quickly wears out a new cassette.
