Used and new enduro and trail bikes
Trail bikes, with mid-length travel, are the most versatile MTBs: they climb efficiently and descend confidently on technical singletrack. Enduro bikes have more travel and are built for fast descents and enduro racing, where you pedal up and the clock starts on the way down. Almost all are full suspension, on 29" wheels or mullet (29" front, 27.5" rear).
Before you buy a used enduro bike
- check the pivots and linkage bearings, because an enduro bike works hard
- ask when the fork and shock were last serviced and what was replaced
- look for rock strikes on the down tube and the rear triangle
- test the dropper post: it should drop and return fully, with no play
- look at the rotors, pads and brake bleed, which take a beating on the descents
Most ads on Biklo are for Specialized, Canyon, Cube, Trek, Mondraker and Scott, while YT Capra, Commencal, Santa Cruz and Nukeproof have devoted fans. If the bike has seen a lot of bike park use, ask for close-up photos of the frame and how it has been ridden.
